This month I went back into the studio to record some new tracks that I can't wait to share, including rap songs "Dietary Restrictions," "Officer Lori" and a parody version of a certain Shania Twain's "Any Man of Mine." Not sure I'll be able to release the latter...might be a little too far. We'll see.
"Officer Lori" was written at the request of a local police officer who emailed me asking if I'd play at her retirement party after seeing me perform "Durham Famous" at the Beaver Queen Pageant. She reached out to me saying that she'd seen a lot of tragedy in her 30 year career and would like to go out on a light-hearted note. The result of our email exchanges is "Officer Lori."
During Thanksgiving dinner, I got a call that an old friend of mine had passed away. He was also a retired cop with a TON of great stories and I was looking forward to playing "Officer Lori" for him. Randy, if you're up there, bend your good ear down to earth, 'cause I'm about to drop this jam. And I'm dedicating the next album to you, Old Man.
